NCCI RESIDUAL MARKET

​Idaho is one of many states that is part of the National Council of Compensation Insurance (NCCI) residual marker or assigned risk pool. The assigned risk pool in Idaho and other states allows employers to obtain workers' compensation insurance even if standard insurance carriers are not willing to provide coverage. Premiums are generally much higher in the assigned risk pool, since it is considered the market of last resort.

As of 2019, there were 1,332 Idaho workers’ compensation policies assigned to the NCCI residual market with $2,978,377 of annual premium. That was a 25.9% increase in the number of policies from the previous year.   

The top ten employer groups in the Idaho NCCI assigned risk pool include, carpentry (5645), trucking (7219), roofing (5551), sheetrock installers (5445), flooring installers (5478), painters (5474), tile/indoor stone installers (5348), clerical (8810), cabinetry (5437), and logging or tree removal (2702).
 
Who are the insurance carriers with the Idaho NCCI assigned Risk pool?
In Idaho there are only two insurance carriers that provide coverage under the NCCI residual market or assigned risk pool- Travelers Property and Casualty Insurance Company and Technology Insurance Company. All employers that are in the Idaho NCCI assigned risk pool for their workers’ compensation insurance will be assigned one of these two insurance carriers.
